Meta now has two AI products that people mix up all the time: Meta AI and Muse. They come from the same company, but they do very different jobs. Here’s the difference in plain English.

The short version
Meta AI is a chatbot. You ask, it answers. Muse is an agent. You give it a goal, and it goes and does the work for you, then checks with you before anything important happens.
What Meta AI does
Meta AI is the assistant built into Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger, plus its own Meta AI app and meta.ai. It answers questions, writes text, creates images and searches the web. It’s great for quick help, but when the conversation ends, the work ends too. You still do the clicking, booking and sending yourself.
What Muse does
Muse, launched on 8 September 2026, is built to take action. It runs on its own computer in Meta’s cloud and can:
- Open a web browser and work through websites while you watch
- Fill out forms, send emails and make bookings
- Connect to apps you allow, like Gmail, Google Calendar, Instagram and Facebook
- Keep working on longer tasks after you close the app
- Ask for your approval before it sends, posts or spends anything

One more thing: Muse the model vs Muse the app
Meta also uses the Muse name for its AI models, such as Muse Spark, which developers use inside their own tools. Those models are not the same as the Muse app. When people search for Muse AI download, they almost always mean the app, officially called Muse from Meta.
Which one should you use?
If you want quick answers, ideas or images, Meta AI is already in the apps you use every day. If you want something that actually gets errands done, like sorting your inbox, planning a trip or filling out forms, Muse is the one to try.
